Violeta MORENO-LAX

Violeta Moreno-Lax (ES) holds the Wübben Foundation Chair of International Law and is the Director of the Hertie School’s Centre for Fundamental Rights (Berlin). In her role as Centre Director, she is currently leading COLLISIONS, a research project on deep value conflicts in international law.

Prof. Moreno-Lax is also Professor of Law at Queen Mary University of London (on leave), where she serves as Director of the (B)OrderS Centre for the Legal Study of Borders, Migration, and Displacement. She previously held the ICREA Research Chair in International and European Law at the University of Barcelona, and has also had academic positions at New York University (NYU), the European University Institute (EUI), the University of Oxford, and The Hague Academy of International Law, among other institutions.

Prof. Moreno-Lax is a legal adviser and founding member of the de:border // migration justice collective, where she focuses on strategic litigation. She has published extensively on border violence, migration and security, and human rights, areas on which she regularly advises UN agencies, EU institutions, national governments, and NGOs. She sits on the Editorial Boards of the European Journal of Migration and Law and the International Journal of Refugee Law.
