In these challenging times, it is crucial to appreciate the significance of war and strategy for ensuring the security of the West. The Geostrategy Nest is where we will discuss and learn about various aspects of Western strategy and their implications for the security of both the European Union and NATO. We will also address the EU’s debate on strategy towards the US, Russia and China.

General objectives:

• Introduce the students to geostrategy as a subfield of geopolitics to enable them to understand the current foreign and security policy and military planning for regional and global security.
• Help the students understand the key undercurrents in our changing world that remain constant, and those that are being rapidly altered.
• Impart to the students a better understanding of the importance of regional balances under conditions of protracted systemic instability.
• Identify the key geographic areas where great power competition has registered across domains, and those where hybrid war has devolved into a kinetic conflict.  
• Help the students analyse the primary geostrategic objectives of great powers, with a special focus on the United States, China, and Russia.
• Teach the students the importance of understanding the absolute and relative power consideration of individual states in the context of their neighbourhood.
