Simulations of EU Decision-Making: Are They (Still) a Valuable Teaching Tool? Bruges, 2-3 October 2025

The European Political and Governance Studies (POL) Department of the College of Europe is pleased to announce the SimGame Anniversary Conference, dedicated to exploring the role, effectiveness, and future of simulations in teaching EU decisionmaking. For decades, starting under the academic supervision of Professor Dame Helen WALLACE, the POL Department of the College of Europe has been offering its students the opportunity to learn about EU decision-making processes via the innovating didactic tool of a simulation game.

In 2025, the College of Europe will celebrate its long tradition of hosting EU simulation games by organising a conference to promote an advanced reflection on EU simulations. The SimGame Anniversary Conference will take place on 2-3 October 2025 in Bruges

For this purpose, we invite paper submissions from scholars, educators, and practitioners engaged in designing, implementing, and evaluating simulation-based pedagogies.

We welcome submissions on (but not limited to) the following themes:

  • Conception and Design of EU Simulations;
  • Learning Impacts and Measurement;
  • Evaluation, Assessment, and Grading of Participants.

We invite interested contributors to submit abstracts (max. 300 words) that address the conference themes. Papers should present empirical research, theoretical insights, or best practices in the field of EU simulation games. Abstracts should be submitted by May 2, 2025.
