Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) & Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) registration

All C-Accounts (College of Europe username and password) require Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to access College resources (E-mail, SharePoint, Teams, Intranet, etc.).

• Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
  • To protect your C-Account, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an additional factor to verify your identity. 
    The additional factor prevents anyone but you from logging in to your account, even if they have your password.
  • Authentication methods:
    • Something you know: Your password
    • Something you have: Your smartphone
    • Something you are: Your fingerprint or facial recognition
  • When you log in to a resource for which MFA is required, you must accept a notification sent to the Authenticator app on your mobile device.
• Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR)
  • In case you forgot your password, you can reset it yourself by proving your identity using one of the authentication methods you registered.

FAQs

• Where will I be prompted to use MFA?
  • At start, MFA will only be enforced when off-campus. Later on, this will depend on various factors such as your location, the device you use, the platform you try to access and the last time you logged on using the previous elements.
• What if my smartphone is lost or stolen?
  • Contact the ICT Helpdesk asap.
• What if I forgot my smartphone at home?
  • Contact helpdesk and ask for a Temporary Access code. Proof of identity will be required.
• What happens with the data I provide for MFA?
  • The various data, such as your recovery e-mail address and phone number, for MFA are only stored and used for authentication purposes. They will not be shared or used outside this scope.
• What information is stored and process for this purpose?
  • If you use the authenticator app, C-account information such as your username are stored in the app and on the device.
  • Non-personally identifiable usage data such as how many times you approved or rejected requests are also processed. This is done to keep to authentication flow secure and, if agreed at first use of the app, to improve further development of the app.
